How We Use Our Money
At The Forum Music Studios, we exist to serve the community through music, culture, and education. We are a Community Benefit Society with an asset lock, which means:
- No profits are ever paid out to members, directors, or shareholders.
- All surpluses are reinvested to support community music, cultural events, and education.
- Our assets are protected – if the Forum ever closed, everything we own would pass to another non-profit with similar community goals, not to individuals.
How Each Part of the Forum Works
- Live Events – Our volunteer-led Live Events Committee plans shows and gigs based on what the community wants. Any surplus goes straight back into funding more events.
- The Forum Music School – Run on a non-profit basis. Any money we make is used to buy instruments, equipment, and resources so local people can access affordable music education.
- Room Hire & Ticket Handling – When artists perform at the Forum, ticket money belongs to them. They may make a contribution to cover costs like sound engineers or equipment. We don’t make a profit from this.
- Rehearsal Rooms & Recording Studio – These are run commercially (since they include specialist equipment and engineers). But any profit made is not kept by individuals – it is invested back into the Forum to improve facilities and support community events.
Our Commitment to Transparency
- We keep clear financial records showing which activities are non-profit and which are commercial.
- We follow VAT rules carefully and seek expert advice when needed.
- Every penny we make supports our mission: to keep music and culture alive in our community.
